Losing my grandfather is the most difficult loss I have experienced in my life. He was truly a magnificent man, one who wore his varied titles with dignity, grace and strength: Husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, to name but a few. There is no singular memory that stands out; rather, I am filled with thanks at having been blessed enough to spend my whole life learning from him. From phone conversations with him as an adult, to vacations and trips to local falls and towns, every moment with him was educational and inspiring. Through his dedication, his support and his guidance, he laid the foundation for my siblings and I to excel in life. He was there for every single milestone, every seemingly insurmountable hurdle, and all the moments in between. I know my family grieves, and I'm thankful to have a network among them -- one which was touched by my grandfather during his whole life -- from which we can all draw strength. This loss hurts, but we know he is at peace. I love you, papaw. I will always love, admire and miss you. - Shorty
