Mary R. (Summers) Schneider, 97, of Spencer, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at the Grand Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mary was born in Quincy, Indiana, on April 18, 1925, to Ralph Renos Summers and Hazel Piety (Wilson) Summers. She graduated from Spencer High School in 1943 and married the love of her life, Virgil C. Schneider, in July 1945.

Mary was a talented seamstress and loved to create for her family, friends, and home. As all who knew her could attest, she believed almost anything could be repaired, redone, or recreated with enough patience and perseverance. As a longtime member of the Spencer United Methodist Church, she enjoyed using her talents at the Mark Mission Store and helping with the Emmaus Walk.

Mary is survived by her devoted children, William Craig (Connie) Schneider of Gosport, Candace Marie (Simon) Assaf of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Ralph Eric (Christine) Schneider of Indianapolis, and Virgil David (Jane) Schneider of Spencer. She is “Grandma” to 11 grandchildren, including Amy (Brad) Mobley, MaryAnn (Kelvin) Blankenship, Susan (Jason) Miller, Sandy (Ricky) Barr, Jamie Schneider, Jessie (Erin) Schneider, Erica (Jeremy) Schneider, Jacob (Jennifer) Schneider, John (Micaela) Schneider, William (Sarah) Schneider, and Maia Assaf; 26 great-grandchildren, including Jimmy Wheeler, Emily Wheeler, Taylor Mobley, Bailee (Tyler) Deford, Sydney Helton, Gracie Helton, Grant Gentry, Kayne Gentry, Clayton Miller, Casey Miller, Harper Miller, Ivan Spencer, Amelia Schneider, Caleb Schneider, Emma Schneider, Brantly Schneider, Stella Schneider, Dylan Schneider, Carsyn Schneider, Rylan Schneider, Kaedyn Schneider, Eli Schneider, Ethan Schneider, Sophie Schneider, Josephine Schneider, Louka Schneider, and one great-great-grandchild, Mavis Helton.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, including Jean (Claude) Kelley, William (Fern) Summers, Winifred (Robert) Snyder, Patricia (Harvey) Meeks, Joseph (Rose) Summers.

Funeral services are 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the Spencer United Methodist Church, 95 West Franklin Street, Spencer. Pastor Drew Baker will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Visitation will be 10:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday, at the church.
