Shirley Jean (Todd) Portteus, age 89, passed away at Bloomington Hospice House on Friday, November 19, 2021. She was born in Madison Place (Cincinnati), Ohio on May 20, 1932 to Robert Leon Todd and Jeannet (Phillips) Todd. She graduated from Ohio University with a Batchelor of Science in Commerce Degree with Specialty in Accounting. After 3 years as an Examiner for the Ohio Division of Building and Loans, she married Willard L. Portteus, Jr. on Saint Patricks Day, March 17, 1956 in Blue Ash, Ohio. As an Army wife, she lived in Germany, Panama, and many of the United States. She bore and raised three sons: Patrick, Michael and James. She was a life member of the Friends of the Library in Owen County, Indiana. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved traveling and Live Theater.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael, her Parents, and siblings, Roberta Todd-Croyle and William Todd.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Willard L. Portteus, Jr., sons, Patrick (Sally) Portteus of Fishers, Indiana, James (Amy) Portteus of Freedom, Indiana, daughter-in-law, Angi (Bill) Portteus-Browne of Spencer, Indiana, grandchildren, January Portteus-Schrage (Greg Schrage) of Fishers, Indiana, Joseph Portteus, of Pueblo, Colorodo, Robert Portteus of Anderson, Indiana, Randee Portteus (Ethan Fields) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Ian (Kristen) Portteus of Spencer, Shelby (Ryan) Bixler, of Spencer, Andrew Portteus of Freedom, Halea (Wes) Franklin of Linton, Lynn (Ryan) Heathco of Indianapolis, Erin (Chris) Manson of Ellettsville, many great-great granchildren, and her brother-in law, George (Carol) Portteus of Mainville, Ohio.
As per Shirley’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. A private burial will take place at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Bell Trace Health and Living Center Long Term Car Wing, the Bloomington Hospital and Hospice of Bloomington for all of their Loving Care.
